We're talking about the Sundowners' work with WAVE, the largest domestic violence residence in the US

Today we have a special Christmas edition of In the Garage!

We'll be talking to Brian Page about his work with WAVE (Women Advancing the Valley through Education, Economics and Empowerment), an important organization helping domestic abuse victims right here in the San Fernando Valley. We'll also be announcing the winner of an original signed Max Grundy print. Be sure to tune in if you've participated in any of our contests!

The Sundowners Motorcycle Club of San Fernando was formed in the early 60's by a group of Motorcycle riders that found a common bond of Brotherhood in the freedom of the road. In 1971 we aquired our first club house located in San Fernando and have been there ever since. We are now in a new area, hoping to make new friends and new bonds. We are looking forward to helping support other clubs Charities and runs when we can, and just have fun!

Industry Artists get creative with Bodie Stroud!

SEMA Artist Max Grundy

My work defuses the power that media has over our society. Media uses fear as a form of propaganda to control our actions, which makes it a powerful force. These are images based on fear. Fear is an interesting topic. Why is it in our society we are obsessed with certain images of fear and panic? Sometimes these images can be an anonymous fear (here represented by masks), while others seem to have little or no effect on the public psyche. Why do we pick and choose our images of fear? I believe that mass media is to blame. This set of imagery was inspired by living in a post 9.11 society. To me 9.11.01 was just another media exploited frenzy using fear tactics as a way for viewers to tune in and readers to buy magazines. Terror, anthrax and fundamentalism have all become household words. (Read More)

Metalcraft Artist Josh Welton

The roots of my love for welding first dug in when I was a millwright apprentice for Chrysler. I struck my first arc in November of 2002, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I was very fortunate to be in a situation where I could learn from Journeymen who had decades of experience in all sorts of welding, and who were more than willing to share their knowledge with me. From tig welding tool steels to stick welding in structural applications and using a mig welder for general fabrication, not to mention everything in between, I’ve been able to develop and hone my skills in a variety of processes and settings. I currently hold a variety of tig and stick welding certifications, and I test for additional qualifications routinely. Brown Dog Welding is the product of my passion. What began as my profession has become something much more. It is an evolving entity as I continue to grow as a metal worker and as an artist. Welding, when done right, is an art form unto itself, and I enjoy challenging myself to raise the bar.

‘RACE, ROCK ‘N RALLY’ GALA FUNDRAISER TO HONOR AUTOMOTIVE CELEBRITIES AT THE PETERSEN AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM

Patrick Dempsey, Jeff Beck, and Ken Block celebrate automotive passion while raising funds for the museum’s educational programs.

The Petersen Automotive Museum with host its annual fundraising gala on October 24, 2013 and this year’s event is set to be the most exciting in the museum’s history. The “Race, Rock ‘n Rally” Gala will recognize a trio of all-stars: the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor and race car driver, Patrick Dempsey, Grammy winning guitarist and car lover, Jeff Beck and World Rally Championship driver and internet sensation, Ken Block.

“This year’s gala continues a long tradition of blockbuster Petersen fundraisers,” said Terry Karges, Executive Director of the Petersen. “Last year we honored two-time Oscar-winner John Lasseter and funnyman Adam Carolla at our ‘Comedy and Cars Gala.’ This year’s event promises to be even bigger as we honor three gentlemen whose automotive passions and careers are as diverse as our audience. The love of the automobile is the common thread that brings us all together.”

The fundraising gala, an evening of cocktails, dinner and entertainment, is known for its substantial auction that raises money to support the museum’s educational programs. The museum hosts 15,000 school children per year on field trips. The Robert E. Petersen Free School Bus Program pays for the buses for underserved schools. This rare opportunity to mingle with a rock legend, an A-list actor-racer and a stunt-driving race car star is something you won’t want to miss.
